Book Review: Jessica's Guide To Dating On The Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

Title: Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Author: Beth Fantaskey
Pages: 351
Publisher: Harcourt
Source: Library
Summary: The undead can really screw up your senior year ...

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancĂ©. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.

Review:
I really liked this book! It was different than most vampire love story books I have read. That is a good thing! At first, before I read the book, I thought this would be a cute romance book. When I read it, I was a little disappointed since Lucius and Jessica didn't get together throughout the book (not saying they didn't ever get together..). This book made me laugh and almost cry. I felt Jessica's pain and joy.

I really liked Jessica's character. She is wise, unlike other girls, such as her friend Mindy. Jessica didn't drool over Lucius and want to be his girlfriend from the beginning. He was a stranger who just came and told her that she was his long lost fiance. She had to get to know him more before she showed interest in him.

I thought Jessica and Lucius's romance was kinda cute, but also a but annoying. If Lucius really loves her then he should have shown it. He should have treated her better.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't the best romance but it was still a really good story. I think author Beth Fantaskey did a great job! I want to read her other book, Jekel Loves Hyde. I recommend reading this book if you like any kind of paranormal/ya books. This book was really good. I gave it four coffee cups.

  1. I'm still not sure if Lucius really loved Jessica at the beginning, so I'm not sure how he could have shown it. It was basically an arranged marriage...

This is one of my favourite vampire books. It doesn't follow the same old formula, so it has a little more suspense than some other YA paranormal romances.

  2. HIGH FIVE
Lucius shoulda shaped up his act! That's one of the reasons I didn't like this one, but I'm glad you did! Like you, I liked how different this one's different from other vampire novels out there. :D But I totally agree about your relationship points.

  3. I really liked this novel. I thought Jessica and Lucius's romance was just right but I like the feuding lovers thing. I agree that during the last half, Lucius went all nuts but he made it up. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the review!
